An Intercooler is another name for a heat exchanger. It is used to cool air to the engine that has been compressed by either a supercharger or turbocharger.
The intercooler is positioned in the path of the incoming air that flows from the charger or turbo to the engine. It improves the power and performance of the vehicle by increasing the intake air density.
There are two types of intercoolers, air-to-air or air-to-liquid.
The heating system is linked directly to the engine cooling system, therefore, it is important to get your vehicle checked if a problem occurs.
How to notice Intercooler failure:
- There will be a lack of power when you accelerate
- The fuel economy of the vehicle will decrease
- Black smoke will be seen coming from the exhaust system
If you have begun to notice any of the above or are experiencing problems with a component in your Intercooler system, please book an appointment. One of our highly skilled technicians will diagnose the problem and get you back motoring as quickly as possible.
